Sounds of the Renaissance and of Today

Sometimes lively, sometimes serious and majestic, the music of 16th century dances reflects the multiple facets of a society driven as much by humanist values as by an undeniable joy of living and a certain taste for celebration. A colorful repertoire to discover at balls or concerts with the musicians of the Campanaire ensemble (chabrettes, recorders, Renaissance bassoons and percussion)!

Ball

Balls are still festive and joyful spaces today, a place where improvisation and tradition mix in both music and dance.

The Campanaire ensemble invites everyone to immerse themselves for a few hours in the atmosphere of a Renaissance ball, guided by the explanations of Marie-Agnès Martineau and by rhythmic and lively music.

The practice of these collective dances brings, in today's era of remote communication, a strong feeling of cohesion and moment awareness.

Concert

The Campanaire ensemble also offers a concert format, allowing the public to develop a different listening experience than that of a ball. The performance venues can be varied: churches and castles, various historical sites but also outdoors, market halls, ballrooms, barns... An invitation for a journey out of time...

Exhibit

Do you want to contribute to knowledge of traditional music and its instruments?

The Amalthée company, of which Campanaire is a part, can organize an exhibition on your premises on the history and making of chabrettes (bagpipes from Limousin/Poitou/Périgord).

This exhibition is made up of 9 panels of 2 m × 0.8 m in color and two display cabinets.
It is based on our research work and aims to bring to the attention of the public (specialists and non-specialists) the exceptional heritage that old oboes and bagpipes constitute, with:
- detailed musicological explanations in the fields of drone music, the functioning of oboes and bagpipes and the history of music.
- the presentation of the different stages of instrument manufacturing, from the materials used to the complete instruments.

This exhibition is intended for both children and adults, whether or not they are familiar with early music.

Among the topics covered:

- Drone music: continuous sound
- Operation and practice of a bagpipe
- Single reeds and double reeds
